Focus on the Arts

Music: The A Cappella Choir under the direction of Ms. Sarah Larson performed at the Archdiocese of Baltimore Gala in October. They were featured in the Catholic Review.

The band and choirs traveled to New York in March to perform in front of the Statue of Liberty in a performance tour.

Fine Art: For the sixth year, Seton Keough Fine Arts students, under the direction of Mrs. Myra Perel, participated in the Memory Project. The Memory Project is an opportunity for art students to create portraits for youth around the world who have been neglected, orphaned, or disadvantaged. Seton Keough painted portraits of orphans in Indian.

Dance: The Dance Department was accepted into the National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA). Dance Director Serene Webber charged the Dance Company members with a service activity to help the local community. In January the company hosted a fundraiser—“An Evening of Dance”, for the Alvin Ailey Dance Camps at Towson University. Before the evening performance, Towson University Dance Professor and former Alvin Ailey Dancer Linda-Denise Fisher-Harrell taught a master class to Seton Keough dance students.

For the second year, the Dance Company was selected to perform at the 2015 Mid-Atlantic Congress and at the Maryland Dance Alliance Showcase in February. The Maryland Dance Alliance is sponsored by MAPHERD.

Theatre: This year the Seton Keough Theatre Department produced two outstanding productions: a play in the fall “Almost Maine” and a spring musical “West Side Story” in March.

Seton Keough Theatre Students formed the first Cappies Theatre Critic Team. Their participation in the program made the school musical and critics eligible to receive awards at the Cappies Gala held at the end of the school year. Cappies members include: Ms. Christine Barrett (moderator), and Erin Boots (Theatre Director), Laura McKernan, Catherine Wiley, Heaven Ferguson, Arielle Burnett, Annabelle Arnold, Mary Beth Bunting, and Jessica Miles. In May the SKHS Theatre Department attended the Cappie Awards Gala held at the SECU arena at Towson University.  Freshman Jessica Harzer performed in the opening number and represented the school as a nominee for best supporting actress in a musical. Miejo Dambita, a sophomore, was nominated for outstanding dancer in a musical.

The Theatre Department Announces its 2015-16 Season:

  • Fall Musical: Into the Woods, November 20 to 23, 2015
  • One Act: I Never Saw Another Butterfly
  • Spring Play: Twelfth Night
