Physical Education & Health

Requirements

All students must complete a 1/2 credit in health and a 1/2 credit in physical education.

The Physical Education/Health Department strives to educate students on the basic principles of health education and  provide each student with the knowledge and basic skills in order to become active and capable movers in society, as well as to motivate them to commit to a lifespan involvement with physical activity— lifetime fitness.

In addition to the basic offerings in Health and Physical Education there are several electives that students may select.

Course Offerings:

Health I
Foundation course in Health Education.

Physical Education

Foundation course in Physical Education.

Note: Health and PE are both required courses for graduation. There are no exemptions from these courses.

Physical Conditioning
This class is an elective that focuses on the proper biomechanical skills, movements, techniques, and training applications designed to enhance all components of physical fitness.

Nutrition
This course is an elective that will provide a solid foundation of content to prepare students with the knowledge of the basic principles of Nutrition. This course will also survey the relationships between nutrition, chronic disease(s), and chronic disease prevention.

Recreational Dance
This energy-packed curriculum of recreational dance is a motivating venue to maintain a physically active and leisure lifestyle through dance.

Peer Power/Peer Health Education
This multi-faceted curriculum was written, developed, and implemented for the purpose of high school students becoming Peer Health Educators and teaching elementary/middle school students the importance of making healthy behavior choices in the areas of nutrition, physical activity, and drug use in order to promote disease prevention and healthy choices for a better future. This course will be offered during the 2012-2013 school year.
