Freshmen

  • Begin developing strong study habits.
  • Work to achieve the best grades that you can. Colleges evaluate students based upon their entire transcript. Your grade point average is cumulative and will be based upon the grades that you earn each year. As a general rule, four-year colleges are looking for a minimum of a 3.0 GPA which means you should set a goal of earning nothing lower than an 83 on all assignments and course work. Remember, every grade you earn is important!
  • Get involved! Whether your involvement is through clubs and activities at SK, sports teams inside school or outside school, or through community service, each activity demonstrates your reliability and commitment. College admission officers want to see that the applicant will be a contributing member of their community.
  • As you become involved, begin making a list of your activities, leadership positions, and /or awards you have earned. Keeping a list like this will make it much easier when you begin to write a resume.
