Are you a member of your alumnae association? If not, well now’s the time to join! The Seton Alumnae Association has been in existence for many, many years while the Archbishop Keough Alumnae Association began in the fall of 2005. The Seton Keough Alumnae Association is just getting off the ground and is looking for members to help start its initiatives. The mission of all three is to keep the spirit of their individual schools alive while supporting the needs and objectives of the school today. More information on each alumnae association can be found on the Seton Keough Web site.

What’s New With You…?
The following alumnae have told us their “story” since the last issue of Seton Keough News went to press. You may update your information online on the Seton Keough Web site and tell us your story so that we can share it in future issues of Alumlines e-newsletter and Seton Keough News.

Seton Keough High School

Michelle Hawes Chan SK‘89
I am a stay at home mom with five wonderful children ages 7, 6, 4, 2 (twins!) years. My husband is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Medical School. I am a graduate of Goucher College with a bachelors degree in Anthropology and Sociology. We are currently living in Pennsylvania. Sorry I missed the reunion. My twins were born on Dec. 29, 2004 and my doctor would not let me travel to Baltimore for the reunion during my pregnancy. I miss you all and hope everyone is doing well.

Julia Fabian Moon SK‘99
Julia was married on Sept. 16, 2006. Her sister-in-law, Margaret Moon, is a senior at Seton Keough this year.

Kimberly Gattus Hannon SK‘00
Kimberly was married to Drew Emerson Silcox-Hannon on April 29th, and their first daughter, Marissa Isabella, was born on August 14. Her husband Drew is serving in the U.S. Army and is in Afghanistan for one year.

Sarah Sebald SK‘02
After graduating from college in 2006, I began working as an engineer at the Maryland State Highway Administration. My division plans all the big highway projects in the state, whether adding lanes to an existing road or determining the best location, size, and configuration for a new one.

Andréa Fernandes SK‘05
I am a sophomore at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia after completing my freshman year at St. John’s University in New York. In spring 2006, I was inducted into Phi Eta Sigma, a freshman honors society, and made the Dean’s list. I have been engaged to William Saunders for over a year; we plan to marry in 2009.

Archbishop Keough

Karen Meckel K‘72
I am a Licensed Professional Land Surveyor in the state of Colorado, one of very few women in the profession out there. I am planning to test for a New Mexico license in April. Prior to entering the field of land surveying, I was a geodesist for the federal government, performing geodetic, geophysical, and mapping surveys worldwide.

I help as a volunteer to organize a yearly Geographic Information Systems conference called GIS in the Rockies (www.gisintherockies.org), having served on the organizing committee and now on the board of directors. I am a member of the board of directors of the American Association for Geodetic Surveying and the current chair of the Colorado Section of the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping (www.acsm.net).

During my 17+ years of surveying and geodesy, I have worked in several countries including Venezuela, Morocco, Japan, England, and throughout Central America. While science is paramount to pursuing a career in the geo-spatial fields, it is also important to be open to different cultures, educated in languages, and schooled in courtesy, which is something that we Americans sometimes lack when we travel. Keough gave me the building blocks for success in my chosen field, not just from the four years of science classes I took, but from the whole Keough experience.

Angela Rodriguez Spataro K‘73
I have chosen the fields of science and technology for my life career. Registered nurses need hi-tech skills to promote health and prevent disease. As scientific and medical research advances, so does the use of new technologies in nursing. Today nurses work with lasers, robotics, computers, video equipment, microscopes, monitors, and other innovative technologies. Nursing is an intellectually stimulating career for those who wish to help others.

Elena Okas Langan K‘76
I’m in my 25th year of practicing law—22 of which have been in sunny Miami!!! I am board certified as a specialist in Marital and Family Law by the Florida Bar, and spend my spare time lecturing and writing. I just found out that I was nominated and selected to appear in Florida Super Lawyers, a magazine featuring the top five percent of attorneys in the state, selected based on peer review and professional achievement. As far as personal achievements go, my most remarkable one is having two great sons, both of whom are attending Penn State University, one graduating this year and the "baby" is a freshman.

Ellen Yurek K‘80
Together with my husband, Scott Yawger, we treasure living in Southern California. It is a new base for travel and exploring wine regions. My new job at a start-up biotechnology company is another source of enjoyment.

Susan Miller Lowery K‘82
My mother graduated from Seton High School in 1947 and my eldest daughter graduated from Seton Keough in 2003. My youngest daughter is a feature Gator, class of 2011. It is amazing to see how much has changed and yet so much has stayed the same!

Colleen Grace Middletown K‘85
Please feel free to give me a call any time! I would love to work with you on any real estate transaction. If you mention Archbishop Keough or Seton Keough I will make a donation to the alumnae association. I look forward to working with you. Email: cmiddletown@cbmove.com.

Laura Tilling Simmons K‘86
I am in my 10th year of running my company in Ocean City. I have a 19-year-old daughter attending Salisbury State University and a three-year-old son.

Tracey Pyle Stone K‘86
I rejoined the Seton Keough community in August when I became the Director of Alumnae. I’m really enjoying getting in contact with old friends and meeting new people. My career up to now has been in healthcare marketing and this is a nice change of pace. My husband and I have a one-year old daughter.

Dawn Cumberland Householder K‘87
Hi everyone. I am a Mom of two daughters and three stepsons. I am married to a great guy for five years and a real estate agent. Contact me. I have been looking for Dawn Crews, class of 1988. Email: harvdawn@verizon.net.

Seton

Mary Osborne Markland S‘36
Mary who was featured in the Sept.-Oct. issue of the Seton Keough News wanted to add that her daughter teaches art at Mercy High School and her granddaughter will be graduating from the College of Slippery Rock in June.

Rosemarie Bouchard Green S‘48
I loved my four years at Seton. They were the best. I am still in touch with so many of the girls. I belong to the Red Hat society with Ann Kessler.

Pat Buchler D’Amario S‘58
I have co-authored four books about the counties of Maryland: Counties of Central Maryland, Counties of Northern Maryland, Counties of Southern Maryland, and Counties of Maryland’s Lower Eastern Shore. I also created and am president of the Ladies Tea Society with chapters in Maryland and Delaware. In addition, I write and publish a magazine Tea Musings; the subscription is included in the membership fee for the Ladies Tea Society.

Barbara Schmitt McIntyre S‘58
I was on work scholarship. Every day at 3 p.m., I cleaned the chapel. Although it prevented me from joining extra-curricular activities, I would do it all over again. The experience at Seton has made me a very strong, independent woman. This helped me in raising my five children. I loved attending an all-girls school.

Suzanne Blaskis Lodanski S‘60
I retired last year and moved to Florida. I lived with my daughter and son-in-law. I joined a sewing group and a Sweet Adeline chorus. The chorus won first-place for a mid-size chorus and third-place overall. I go to Disney World whenever I have a chance. I have been back to Baltimore several times to see family. I swim every chance I get, we have a pool in the back yard.

Patricia Evans S‘69
I have retired from my career at the Social Security Administration after 37 and a half years of service. Just two weeks after graduating from Seton High School in 1969, on the stage of the Lyric Theater, I went to work for the Federal Government. It was a great career for me. And now I am entering a new phase of my life. I am really happy about that!

Cynthia Smith Chrystal S‘69
I am the proud grandmother of twin girls, Jasmin and Jacqueline. They are 15 months old and keep me going. My son will be married in June 2007. I am blessed in my life!

Darlene Heinbuch Lang S‘80
I attended Seton High School along with my two sisters Marina Heinbuch Burriss S‘78 and Michele Heinbuch Herget S‘83. My daughter Crystal Lang Evans SK’98 received her BA from Marymount University in Arlington, VA and has been a special education teacher at Marley Middle School in Anne Arundel County for three years. She was married on July 9, 2005 to Jeffrey Evans. My daughter Shannon Lang SK’00 received her BS in Biology/Chemistry from Salisbury University and attended Pace University in New York City for one year working toward her masters. She is now working as a microbiologist with McCormick in Hunt Valley. She was engaged on Christmas Eve 2006 to Douglas Waterbury. They are planning a May 2008 wedding.
