Camp St. Vincent is Looking for Summer Camp Volunteers
Camp St. Vincent is a summer day camp for children experiencing poverty and homelessness in Baltimore City and Baltimore County. At Camp St. Vincent, children ages 5 to 11 experience the joys of summer camp while participating in enrichment activities designed to stem summer learning loss. This year, for the first time, Camp St. Vincent will enroll exclusively children who are homeless, so services and activities will be specifically geared to meet the needs of this vulnerable population.
Located at Patterson Park, Camp St. Vincent offers a structured outdoor recreation program that includes swimming instruction, arts and crafts, reading, math, physical education, and other traditional summer camp activities. The children also participate in daily Character Development Lessons, which strive to boost self-esteem, teach the children to resist negative peer pressure, and encourage them to "DO THE RIGHT THING" - the Camp St. Vincent theme. All of these activities allow the children to learn and grow in a safe environment, where the staff always emphasizes sharing, cooperation, fairness, and respect.
Volunteer Counselors have the opportunity to participate in all of the activities above. I would love to begin discussing with you how we might best distribute information to your students and get them excited about serving at Camp St. Vincent this summer. I am forwarding along the Job Description, Volunteer Counselor Job Description, and Counselor application materials that you can print out and distribute yourself, if desired. Students who need service learning hours or a fun summer experience can feel free to complete the application and send it to the address listed below. In addition, I would be happy to schedule a time to speak with your students myself and provide more information through a structured presentation and info session.
I look forward to hearing from you and building a strong relationship between your students and Camp St. Vincent this summer. Please do not hesitate to call me at 410-662-0500x202 or email me at mary.czar@vincentbaltimore.org if you have any questions about Camp St. Vincent or our application process.
