Academic Departments & Programs - FOCUS

The FOCUS Program is designed for students who score lower on the high school placement test and have experienced academic difficulties in the past.

These difficulties may indicate reading, written language, and/or math deficits. The students are identified and may be placed in specific core academic classes designed as preparation for college-prep classes. FOCUS students are also placed in study skills classes, which include support in the academic classes, organizational/study skills, and specific remediation in math, written language, and reading. Students in the FOCUS program also participate in all of the required elective classes.

The FOCUS program incorporates a mandatory summer review session in English and math. The FOCUS Director, who maintains frequent communication with parents and teachers, assesses student progress throughout the year. The goal of the FOCUS program is to help students improve their academic skills with a “focus” on attending college.
